Changes

I haven't posted for a while because I've been processing... my dad was in the hospital over the weekend, they suspected a stroke. He didn't know who anyone was. It wasn't a stroke. That's good.
He hasn't been able to breathe well for a while, he keeps turning blue. They found out his blood pressure was up over 200.
Tests showed his brain was atrophied and his heart was dehydrated and not pumping as it should. They think it's from sleep apnea. Yep. Weird, huh? So 40 years of deprived oxygen and no restorative sleep really takes it's toll.
He's home now, on oxygen and with a walker. He's mean and not very cooperative. (nothing new there.) Things will be different. I think that's weird too. My poor mom, the eternal care-giver.
I'm cranky because my dad is rude to the people who are trying to help him. I'm cranky because he doesn't seem to try, just give up. I guess I'm cranky because he got old.....

Oh, Piper - I'm sorry to hear about your dad. My dad is on oxygen too, and it IS strange to watch someone who has been strong your whole life start to deteriorate. It makes me so aware of our own mortality and kind of clicks things into focus. Please let me know if you need anything.

Piper, your dad cranky? That seems wierd. On a serious side, I am glad that they figured out what was going on. Hopefully he'll start feeling better soon. You guys are in our prayers.

I am sorry you have to deal with all of this. Glad to hear they figured out what was up with him. It sounds like such a tough situation. Hang in there and give your Mom a big hug from us! :)

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad! It is awful watching them get older, isn't it? My dad had the same exact thing, with the sleep apnea. Now he sleeps with an oxygen tank and he says he feels better than he ever has. Good luck with everything. It sucks. I'll keep you in my prayers! (And don't worry about being cranky, it is your right!)

huge bummer. that sucks. and it is so hard to watch those you love get old and struggle, AND have them be mean about it. NO FUN! hugs for you! hope they get that taken care of.

Piper- I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I am glad that he is home and doing well (even though he is cranky!) Maybe he is cranky because he's never really had good sleep?! Love you!
