Here's A Story, Of A Lovely Lady......

This is Jen: isn't she so cute? She was always so put together!

Tomorrow is my good friend JENIFER's birthday! I thought I'd tell a little story of how we met and became friends. NINETEEN years ago! Hard to believe. This story would make a great after-school special, let me tell you....
So here I am, in Junior High. Big time stuff, and I was scared out of my mind, intimidated, and generally peeing my pants with nervousness. Here's how I looked. HUGE bangs, pink & purple eye shadow, frizzy perm that I would COMB OUT! (picture Roseanne Rosannadanna) And, I was Pre-orthodontics. Gross. I was a HUGE nerd.
Now it gets even worse: gym class! I just tried to keep my head down. We were all sitting on the benches getting dressed when the "popular girl's" deodorant rolled on the floor under me. This chick was a major BEEATCH. (she still is! I sometimes see her at hair shows!) She proceeded to yell, to me, "Hey, GIRL! Pick up my deodorant for me!" So of course I start reaching, what else would I do? How humiliating, I wanted to cry. Just then I hear someone else yell: "Her name isn't "girl", it's PIPER!" I looked up and who do you think I saw? Jenifer Bringhurst! I swear there was a light behind her, glowing, and a hallelujah chorous was singing! She knew the bitchy girl, and she still stuck up for me! Instant friends. She is still that kind of person, she will go to bat for you till the end. Her heart is true and she is a wonderful friend.
A good beginning to a great friendship. We spent the next 3 years making some wonderful memories! Oh, the awkward teen years!
-I remember almost getting kicked off a city bus because we were trying to start a sing along!
-We were trying to be hippies during the first Gulf War. We made and handed out home-made peace signs to everyone at school and got them to play, "Give Peace a Chance" over the intercom.
-We were obsessed with 50's music, and would check out old tapes from the library and listen to songs like "Mr. Postman" and "Duke of Earl" over and over.
-We would RUN to my house after school to catch the 2nd half of Days of Our Lives. Sometimes we'd order pizza and pay with CHANGE!
-We would buy Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and I'd eat the chocolate and she'd eat the peanut butter. (she no-likey chocolate)
-We would always walk with each other past cute boys houses and lockers, trying to look non-chalant.
- She always let me borrow her Girbaud skirt. ( I can't believe I ever fit into anything of hers!)
-I thought she was so wild because she had a cat named Nard!
-We tried to have a New Years party one year. We spent weeks using a hole punch to make confetti. That night, we were in her basement ALONE. Her cute Dad offered to call his scouts to come over! Oh man.
-We ditched the bus ride home on 9th grade Lagoon Day. We were basically stranded. We got in big trouble.
-Jen's older sister and her boyfriend used to sneak Jen and I into the drive in with them! We thought we were so big!

This is a pic from a field trip to Hogle Zoo..... recognize your sister Erica?
So, Jenifer my dear, I hope you know how much I love you. You are a wonderful woman, wife, mother and friend. You are true and genuine and I will always cherish our friendship. No matter how far away from each other we are.
Have a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Baby Elizabeth

We got to see Heather's baby today! Elizabeth Jane. She is one week old, and soooo tiny. So precious, too. And what a mellow baby! Everyone is just in love. Heather is doing so well too, even after her emergency C-section!
So, good news all around, and we were all in heaven today cuddling up to that sweet girl!

Pioneer Day

Our Utah State Holiday. More red, white, and blue. More yummy snacks. More fireworks. We love it! Plus Cannon and his cousins had big fun going super fast on the big wheel!
Cannon starts preschool soon, so I asked Benjamin and Levi to tell him a little about what it's about.... it all went pretty well at first, Ben was telling about story time, and fun things to play, but then he started warning Cannon about BULLIES! I over heard the word "victim"! So that plan didn't end up very well.
We meet with the teacher next week, hopefully Cannon will feel less nervous after that. Geez Ben!

New Kid on the Block

Well, my husband has finally given in and created his own blog! Apparently, I'm unable to keep up with all the adventures he and Cannon are having, so he can post them himself! If you'd like, check it out here

My Estelle

Sweet Estelle Getty passed away today, 3 days before her birthday. She has been ill with dimentia for a long time, so it's for the best.

She will always live on as Sophia from the Golden Girls, one of my very favorite shows. She's the only one I didn't have an autograph from, darn.

I began loving Golden Girls when I was little, I would sleep over at Granny Kate's house on Saturdays and we'd watch it, and she would explain the sex jokes for me! Yep, my grandma taught me what a slut was! HA!

Rest in peace, dear Estelle. Maybe she's having a good chuckle with Granny right now.

More Father-Son Adventures

Yesterday Greg took Cannon to the Timpanogos Caves! What a fun adventure! Cannon said it was dark, and cold. And he said there was a lady there that just kept going, "Blah Blah Blah." (the tour guide) Geez! What a harsh critic! Just like his dad. Cannon's highlights were the pretty rocks every where and the chipmunks. Greg just likes planning activities and then crossing him off his list! Very task-oriented. I'm glad they have so much fun together!
I was happy to stay home and rest. I've been feeling less nauseated lately, which is great. I feel more like a human. We have our ultra sound in 2 weeks!

Misty Water Colored Memories.....

I saw this game on Melissa's blog. I thought it sounded fun! Here are the rules if you'd like to play along:

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!
2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.Let the memories begin!

Is anyone else into vintage ANYTHING like me? I inherited these OLD old records from Aunt Liz last week. These pictures melt me. I love it!! Look at the Santa's rosy cheeks! Am I weird?

Fire! Fire!

You can tell these boys have firemen in their family!! They were obsessed with the flames!!!
It was a big-boy year for Cannon. He got to help light some of the fire works! Nothing fancy, sparklers and smoke bombs. He was way into it, until he burned his finger on the sparkler. Ouch! After that he was more content to sit by Papa Gary (the original fire bug) and watch.

Daybreak Lake

One of the many adventures Greg takes his son on! I love seeing my husband as a Dad. Just when I thought I couldn't love him more. t
This lake is about 3 minutes away, so it's easy for them to strap the kayak on the car and go! They are gone for a good couple of hours, and Cannon doesn't get bored! There's lots to see. Greg will give guided tours if you want one!

I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up!!!

Literally. I was coming downstairs yesterday to see what Greg and Cannon were up to and gave them a show. I don't know what happened! I'm pretty sure it's because I filed my feet really good the night before and had no velcro on them to keep me stuck to the stairs. I slipped about half way and just KA-KLUNKED the rest of the way down. MAN!! I have a goose-egg on my butt! Like it needs any more lumps! I hurt so badly today! It's like whiplash all over! Duh. What a stupid thing to do! And Cannon keeps giving me a recap all day, like I don't remember what happened. I guess it was pretty exciting for him!
So they are off to kayak at Daybreak Lake and I'm going to take a bath and go to bed! Oy!

Have a great Fourth of July!!
