sad

I got some bad news yesterday evening. My doctor passed away. Now, this just isn't any doctor, he was my OB/GYN. I have been going to him since I was 18. Every woman in my family goes to him, and he has delivered 5 out of 6 grandkids in my family. (Cannon came too fast for him to make it there!) My oldest niece is 29, does that give you an idea of how long we've known Dr. Hansen?
I bawled all night. I was so excited to tell him I finally got pregnant again! I guess he knows now anyway. I saw him in March, and he said, "Don't worry, you'll be back here soon enough complaining about how crappy you feel!"
Dr. Hansen ALWAYS took the time to stop and chat about how things were, not just medical issues. Life's up's and downs. He wasn't just a doctor, he was human. He was kind, caring and compassionate. He made me feel like I mattered. He made me feel like the baby inside me was the most important thing in the world.
I was a surrogate in 2006. That was a major life experience. A bit more complicated in every way than a regular pregnancy. He was there with me. He worried with me. He took care of me. He cried with me when she was born.
Dr. Hansen was important to me and my family. He can never be replaced. He will be sorely missed. He was my friend.

Piper, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It's so wonderful to know that you had such an amazing doctor to guide you through some of the most important moments of your life. If everyone could be so lucky!
